My first birth was a natural birth that was calm, pleasant and comfortable. It was just 6 hours from start to finish. In fact, it felt so easy, that while I was happy to have my eight pound baby boy in my arms, I was a little disappointed that it was all over.

How could that be?

Isn't birth supposed to be painful and traumatic?

I was already a midwife practicing in Toronto and I had heard about hypnosis (long before it was as popular as it is today), so I decided to give it a try. I didn't know much about it. I didn't know anyone who had used it. I didn't know then as I know now that hypnotherapy is associated with faster, easier births. It just made sense to me that my mind could help the process...even if it was just a little bit.

Did it work?

You bet it did!

It worked so well, in fact, that when I took some time off in 1998 from a busy midwifery practice, I decided to help other parents have the same amazing experience that I did.

I trained with the National Guild of Hypnotists, and I've had a full-time practice ever since, combining traditional prenatal classes with hypnotic Comfort Techniques and advanced training in deep relaxation.
