General

Shawn Gallagher owns and operates www.childbirthjoy.com.

I am committed to protecting and respecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal information belonging to all clients and customers.

This privacy policy will be regularly updated to meet any changes that are necessary, or required by law.

ChildbirthJoy.com does not rent, sell or trade your name, mail address, email address or phone numbers.

Your email and/or phone number is used only to respond to your questions, for placing your orders, or in response to requests you have made.

PLEASE NOTE: if you prefer to not use the online INTAKE FORM, contact me and I will forward a Word document that you can complete and email back. Or, we can find another way. :)

Participants of the ChildbirthJoy Prenatal Hypnosis Series will be provided a Follow-Up Form online that may be completed after the birth. Completion of the form is entirely voluntary and helps with aggregate data collection and personal information is kept strictly confidential.

When you visit or order from ChildbirthJoy.com, you will have the option of adding your name to our mailing list.

This list is only for ChildbirthJoy.com mailings and periodic announcements about new offerings.

At any point if you wish to have your name removed from the mailing list, please contact us with your request.

When you book a private appointment or workshop, you will receive an email confirmation.

Questions or requests may also be responded to by email.

Some Specifics

As a Board Certified Hypnotist providing a service to the general public, I am not a part of a regulated or licensed profession.

Fees

Services are not covered as a medical expense by the Federal government and most (probably all) insurance plans do not reimburse hypnosis receipts.

Receipts are provided that detail the H.S.T. number for this business and any other relevant information.

Confidentiality

For your safety and protection, I adhere to strict ethical standards of confidentiality. Hypnosis sessions are confidential and identifying information is not shared outside of the appointments. Files are kept in a locked cabinet.

In the rare circumstance that records are requested by law, hypnotists are required to comply.

Clients Requesting Pain Relief

Clients requesting hypnosis for pain relief are asked to provide a letter from a medical doctor to me stating that hypnosis is an acceptable approach in their case.

For the ChildbirthJoy Prenatal Hypnosis series, I request permission to mail a letter to your careprovider.

As hypnosis is designed to mask pain, and as pain is considered a highly relevant to the appropriate diagnosis of active labour, your careproviders should be aware that hypnosis is being used.

To omit this information could result in care that is not the best for you and your baby.

It has been my experience that all the Registered Midwives and Physicians have found the standard form letter helpful. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments in this regard.

Conditions Requiring Medical Treatment

For their own safety, I do not accept anyone with Multiple Personality Disorder, schizophrenia or other conditions under the care of a psychiatrist. I am not trained in handling serious mental health issues. In general, hypnosis encourages dissociation and anyone who has challenges remaining oriented to everyday reality is in better care with a mental health professional.

The research for epilepsy and hypnosis is unclear- in practice, people are fine with hypnosis as long as it does not include flashing lights, which I do not use.

I reserve the right to refer any clients to professional medical care.

I always recommend that clients work with their identified health professional when using hypnosis, NLP or EFT or other modalities provided.

I never provide advice on medication use - this is between you and your primary HealthCare Provider.

My belief is that we are each responsible for our health and my job is to assist clients in tapping into their own best health and well-being.

Prenatal Classes

For Your Safety

Participants confirm that the information provided is correct and that no key health condition has been omitted. Hypnosis is not a replacement or substitute for medical treatment and participants agree not to discontinue medical treatment without prior discussion and/or approval of the healthcare provider (midwife or physician).

Participants are informed that hypnosis may greatly assist the birthing process, but does not guarantee a pain-free birth or the prevention of medical intervention.

Privacy

In the spirit of confidentiality, class participants are asked to refrain from discussing any details presented by other participants to anyone outside of the series. The instructor is bound by confidentiality and does not client information in any way without client consent.

Cancellation Policy

In the event of cancellation prior to two weeks of the first class, $198.50 plus $25.80 HST of the course fee covers the materials provided and  administrative costs and is non-refundable. Your materials are yours to keep.

If cancellation happens within the two weeks before the start of the series, the full fee is non-refundable. Every attempt will be made to ensure space availability in another series, but as noted below, once a booking is made, I ensure that your space is held for you. It is extremely rare for people to book prenatal classes last minute, so a cancellation means that the class size is reduced.

If changing dates, an administrative fee ($100) is applicable.

Cancellation prior to the course start as a result of medical reasons will be taken into consideration. A letter from the midwife or physician will assist this process.

Hypnosis for Pain Management

As noted above, in regards to the use of hypnosis for pain management: as per the National Guild of Hypnotist’s ethical guidelines, hypnotists helping clients with pain management are required to inform the medical careprovider.

Because the intent of hypnosis is to mask the sensation of pain, participants understand that your primary careprovider (Midwife, Physician, other) should be informed about the use of hypnosis as it may be relevant to your clinical care. Healthcare Providers incorporate the level of pain experienced by person in order to make an appropriate diagnosis. For your safety and protection, it is in your best interest to ensure that your healthcare team is aware of your use of hypnosis.

thank you,

Shawn Gallagher
